WHO ARE WE?
We are guardians of Mother Earth and life, our task is to protect and preserve it beyond the U'wa Nation to guarantee the existence of all humanity and future generations. Our relationship with the territory is a bond; an umbilical cord between the womb of Mother Earth and other beings. If this bond or link is broken, we will become extinct.
Located in the natural ecosystem of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, the foothills of the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes and the flat savannas of the department of Arauca, the U'wa Nation are an indigenous people of Colombia.
OUR TERRITORY
The ancestral territory of the U'wa Nation included what is now known as the departments of Boyacá, Santander, Norte de Santander, Arauca and Casanare in Colombia and the states of Táchira, Apure, Barinas and Mérida in Venezuela. This territory has been reduced over the years and only part of it has been recognized by the State under the figure of Indigenous Reserves.
Currently, the communities are located in Boyacá, Santander, Norte de Santander, Casanare and Arauca departments.
